this talk: is about endometriosis and reproductive struggles as a female - with Samantha Denae
I was diagnosed with Endometriosis in 2014 but the pain and signs had always been there. Initially my cycles were 8-days and I bled extremely heavy and had severe narcolepsy. After ingesting too many codeine pills during a menstrual cycle, I finally heard the word โEndometriosisโ from a doctor in my college town who took notice of my period symptoms.
After having my first laparoscopic procedure I was diagnosed with Stage 1 Endometriosis. Between 2014-2019 I tried a plethora of treatments to manage the symptoms such as various forms of birth control, Lupron Depot (a chemotherapy treatment), personal hormone creams, surgeries to only endure a 90-day period for 9 months out of the year that took me from Stage 1 to Stage 4. Add in my current fertility struggles, money spent on the constant need for sanitary products - mentally I was spent.
I fell into depression while heavily medicated on chemo and pain pills, but nothing was working for me. Eventually my spiritual awakening, calling, and getting to know myself and my womb led me to a place of healing. I've overcome the mental traumas and anxiety of my period and having a reproductive condition like Endometriosis. I allowed for it to plague my view of myself as a woman, but I had to learn that it's not my fault and I'm a woman regardless of my condition. I had to learn to love me.
